In an unprecedented act of self-forgiveness by proxy, former President Donald Trump announced this morning that he has issued a full presidential pardon to Elon Musk—for the emotional damage Musk caused him. Speaking at a Mar-a-Lago press conference flanked by golden eagles, Trump told reporters, “Elon hurt me deeply when he tweeted that I wasn’t ‘alpha’ enough. That’s psychological warfare. But I’m big-hearted. I forgive… and I pardon.”
The pardon, which has no legal basis as Trump currently holds no office, was nonetheless printed on faux-gold stationery and signed with a Sharpie. It absolves Musk of “all crimes committed against the former president’s ego,” including failing to mention Trump in a recent AI demo, not naming a Tesla after him, and allegedly choosing a dinner with Obama over Mar-a-Lago golf.
Elon Musk, who appeared confused when asked about the pardon, tweeted simply, “I don’t even know what’s happening anymore,” followed by a doge meme of Trump riding a rocket to the moon. The tweet was immediately retweeted by Trump with the caption, “See? We’re best friends again.”
The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), headed by Musk, released a formal statement saying it will now prioritize “restoring emotional stability in high-ranking narcissists” through SpaceX therapy modules and federally mandated flattery.
Legal scholars were quick to point out that while the pardon has no legal standing, it does seem to have soothed Trump’s feelings for now. “This is the most peaceful he’s been in weeks,” said one aide, “We’ll take it.”
As for future pardons, Trump hinted he may next pardon Kanye West for interrupting him during a rally to talk about “vibes.”
