A new study from Harvard University has confirmed what many suspected but few dared to put in a peer-reviewed journal: Republicans can’t stop talking about Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez because, deep down, they’re just really, really into her. The study, published in the Journal of Repressed Political Thirst, surveyed 2,000 self-identified conservatives and found a strong correlation between negative posts about AOC and what researchers diplomatically called “confused arousal.”
“We noticed a pattern where the more someone tweeted angrily about her, the more likely they were to spend time on her Instagram,” said Dr. Fiona Blake, lead researcher on the study. “We also found several cases of Fox News pundits referencing AOC during segments that had absolutely nothing to do with politics. One even slipped and called her ‘babe’ on air.”
The data revealed that 78% of respondents who labeled AOC as “dangerous,” “radical,” or “the downfall of America” had watched at least three of her makeup tutorials and could describe her shoe collection in detail. “We believe this is the political version of pulling someone’s pigtails on the playground,” Dr. Blake added. “Except now the playground is Congress and the pigtails are socialist.”
Republican leaders have denied the findings, with one Texas congressman insisting, “I only watch her videos to stay informed about how wrong she is. And because the lighting is good. That’s it.” Others claimed the study was biased, woke, and possibly part of a socialist seduction campaign orchestrated through TikTok.
The study concludes that AOC may represent a complex cocktail of intimidation, admiration, and unresolved feelings brought on by the combination of policy knowledge, confidence, and a ponytail that could probably filibuster on its own. Harvard has recommended further studies on how to distinguish between political disagreement and flirty projection.
At press time, AOC responded by tweeting a shrug emoji and a link to her latest climate proposal, adding, “If you’re going to stalk me, at least read the plan.”
