In a heartwarming display of patriotism and culinary excess, local dad Frank Peterson proudly grilled a record-breaking 47 hot dogs during his annual Memorial Day backyard cookout to “honor the troops.” Neighbors report that Frank’s grill was ablaze for over six hours, during which he maintained a steady supply of ketchup, mustard, and enthusiastic shouts of “This one’s for you, boys!”
“I just think it’s important to show respect,” Frank said while flipping a hot dog with a pair of tongs shaped like the American flag. “Every hot dog I grill is a tribute to our brave service members. That’s why I go big. Real big.”
Witnesses say Frank’s approach to grilling was methodical yet aggressive, with each hot dog receiving a precise four-and-a-half flips before being ceremoniously placed onto a paper plate adorned with tiny flags. His wife, Linda, reported that he spent days preparing, including purchasing six packs of buns, three bags of charcoal, and a comically large bottle of relish labeled “Family Size for Freedom.”
Despite his impressive dedication, many of the hot dogs were ultimately abandoned, with children opting for popsicles and adults turning to Frank’s wife’s pasta salad. “They just don’t get it,” Frank lamented, eyeing a plate of untouched wieners. “These hot dogs represent sacrifice.”
Frank’s neighbor, Bob, tried to show solidarity by grilling a modest eight hamburgers but was promptly overshadowed when Frank began chanting, “Hot dogs for heroes! Hot dogs for heroes!” at a volume that rattled the windows.
At press time, Frank was seen packaging the leftover hot dogs into a Ziploc bag labeled “For the troops” before placing it in his freezer, where it will presumably remain until next year’s cookout.
