In her latest attempt to rewrite the lore of a universe she finished nearly two decades ago, J.K. Rowling has shocked fans once again by revealing that Harry Potter — the Boy Who Lived, the Chosen One, the one who once punched Draco Malfoy in the face — was actually a closeted Republican the entire time.
“I always imagined Harry had a deep respect for fiscal conservatism,” Rowling tweeted from a Victorian library while petting a cat named Regan. “The signs were always there. He was suspicious of authority, distrusted the press, and was very into personal responsibility. Honestly, it was obvious.”
The announcement has sent shockwaves through the fanbase, many of whom now find themselves reinterpreting key moments in the series. “The broomstick was clearly a metaphor for deregulated markets,” said one confused Redditor. “And Dobby? Probably a libertarian.”
According to Rowling, Harry kept his political leanings private at Hogwarts out of fear of being canceled by the Hufflepuff majority. “He didn’t come out until after the war,” she explained. “But once Voldemort was gone, he felt safe enough to vote for wizard Brexit and complain about inflation under Kingsley Shacklebolt.”
When asked about the rest of the cast, Rowling hinted that Ron Weasley was “the kind of guy who listens to Joe Rogan but doesn’t admit it,” while Hermione is now retroactively “too woke to function.” Fans have pleaded with Rowling to stop revealing things, but she insists the books were “just the beginning of a constantly evolving multiverse of ideological hot takes.”
At press time, Warner Bros. confirmed that the next reboot of the Harry Potter series will feature Harry interning at the Ministry of Magic’s Economic Liberty Department and proudly wearing a red “Make Hogwarts Great Again” hat under his invisibility cloak.
